Intelligent Energy - Europe programme
The Intelligent Energy - Europe programme (IEE) is the most important EU tool for funding projects to improve energy efficiency in building sector and move Europe towards a more sustainable use of energy. This programme is administrated by Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI) under DG Energy. IEE published annual programme to focus the new projects in the most appropriate way. Total funding of the projects is app 80 M€ per year. Up to 75% of the project cost is funded by EACI. Typical project lasts 2.5 years and cots about 1-2 M€.

IDES-EDU - Master and Post Graduate education and training in multidisciplinary teams implementing EPBD and beyond
THERMCO - Thermal comfort in buildings with low-energy cooling
BUILDING EQ - Tools and methods for linking EPDB and continuous commissioning (BUILDING EQ)
Indoor air quality related projects
The most important EU agency for sponsoring the indoor air quality related projects is Executive Agency for Health and Consumers (EAHC). Important IAQ related projects are:
ENVIE project (FP6) on health effects and cost on indoor environment
HealthVent - Health-Based Ventilation Guidelines for Europe
The aim of the HealthVent project is to develop health-based ventilation guidelines. They will protect people in places like schools, nurseries, offices and homes against health problems caused by poor indoor air quality, and at the same time will ensure that energy is utilized efficiently.
Radon Prevention and Remediation
The general objective of this project is to assist in reducing the significant public health burden of radon related lung cancers in EU Member States (MS). The effectiveness of the various existing radon prevention and remediation strategies in the MS are assessed with the objective of improving them.
The SINPHONIE project, the Schools Indoor Pollution and Health: Observatory Network in Europe, is a complex research project covering the areas of health, environment, transport and climate change and aimed at improving air quality in schools and kindergartens. The project is implemented under a European Commission service contract of the DG Sanco.
Thirty-six environment and health institutions from 25 countries are participating in the SINPHONIE research project in order to implement Regional Priority Goal III (RPG3) of the Children’s Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe (CEHAPE), which is to prevent and reduce respiratory disease due to outdoor and indoor air pollution.
Framework Programmes
EU support research in many areas. The research policy and directions are specified in the the Framework Programmes. FP7 is the short name for the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. This is the EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe and it will run from 2007-2013. FP7 is also designed to respond to Europe's employment needs, competitiveness and quality of life. The broad objectives of FP7 have been grouped into four categories: Cooperation, Ideas, People and Capacities. For each type of objective, there is a specific programme corresponding to the main areas of EU research policy. All specific programmes work together to promote and encourage the creation of European poles of (scientific) excellence. The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is designed to support a wide range of participants. The project are funded based on responses to the call of proposals which are announced at the website of FP7.
Sixth framework programme FP6 run for the years 2002-2006. The eight framework programme is in the preparation stage.
Joint Reseach Centre
EU own research is done in the Joint Research Centre (JRC). Its activities are grouped under a specific programme with individual budget allocation. The research in JRC support mainly the legislative actions of the EU.
