CIBSE (the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) is the leading global body for building services professionals, championing sustainability, innovation and building performance across the built environment. We empower and equip professionals with the expertise, guidance and standards needed to deliver safe, efficient and future-ready buildings. Through our leadership in decarbonisation, building performance and continuous professional development, we support a community dedicated to creating better places for people and the planet.

Through CIBSE’s 24,000 members worldwide, it oversees a rich network of building services professionals across multiple disciplines. CIBSE operates 17 Special Interest Groups on topics such as HVAC systems, energy performance, heat networks, retrofit and data centres. In addition, CIBSE has five ‘societies’ that operate as separate entities covering specific aspects of building services. These include:

  • Society of Digital Engineering (SDE)
  • Society of Façade Engineering (SFE)
  • Society of Light & Lighting (SLL)
  • Society of Public Health Engineering (SoPHE)
  • Society of Vertical Transportation (SoVT)

As well as individual membership, there are also options to join or get involved with CIBSE as a company.

PUBLICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE

GUIDES and other Publications: CIBSE publishes a wide range of design guides and other publications relating to building services engineering, and through its mail order service sells all CIBSE titles and also related publications from the Building Services Research & Information Association (BSRIA), ASHRAE and a range of other publishers including REHVA. CIBSE publishes two peer reviewed Journals.

Building Services Engineering Research & Technology: a quarterly journal of engineering practice and research papers

Lighting Research & Technology: A quarterly journal of engineering and research papers on lighting design and applications only.

Both are peer reviewed Journals with Impact Factors

TRAINING EVENTS/COURSES

Number of training events/courses per year: CIBSE Training runs just shy of 200 courses a year, and along with the On-Demand training courses, hosted on our Learning Management System, ‘MyCIBSE Learning’, we reach over 2,000 people a year.
In addition, there is a regular programme of Regional and Branch events in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Gulf Region, Hong Kong and Australia/ New Zealand.
