REHVA - ASHRAE renewed MoU

Tim Wentz and Jaap Hogeling signed on 25 June 2017 on behalf of ASHRAE and REHVA a renewed MoU between ASHRAE and REHVA.

REHVA supports the globalisation of our HVAC&R professional world. Both organisations express the wish to extend the global reach and better support its membership. This was also the background of the formation of a new ASHRAE Region in Europe – Region XIV, which started 1 July 2017.

This agreement, in line with the ones REHVA signed with its other international partners, will increase the knowledge mutual transfer from the societies and organisation between North America and Europe, will outline how the groups will work together more closely to continue furthering and promoting the advancements of HVAC&R technologies. These include but are not limited to: research; joint conferences and meetings; training and workshop programs; publication distribution and other form of collaboration.

Find here the MoU signed.

REHVA and EUROVENT ASSOCIATION are boosting their cooperation

Smart readiness indicator - REHVA contribution at 1st stakeholder meeting

On 7 June REHVA attended the 1st stakeholder meeting about the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) that is currently under development for DG Energy within a service contract. The introduction of an SRI for buildings is mandated by the current EPBD, as well as in the amendment proposal of the European Commission. The consortium of VITO, Ecofys, WSE, OFFIS  works on a technical study about the scope, definition and calculation of the SRI. The work was launched in March 2017 and will last until March 2018. After this 1st meeting, REHVA contributed to the review of the first draft working documents mapping the existing SRI technologies. REHVA is closely following the developments.

EPBD review - REHVA comments on ITRES's draft report and ENVI's opinion

REHVA submitted its comments to the ITRE draft report prepared by rapporteur Bent Bendtsen on the Energy Performance of Building Directive, as well as to the ENVI draft opinion developed by the rapporteur Anneli Jäätteenmäki. ITRE has received 600 amendment proposals until the June deadline and is currently working on the final opinion scheduled for vote in October 2017. Read the REHVA comments submitted to the two draft opinions here.

EPBD - Council positions approved

The Council of the European Union agreed on its position on a proposal for the EBD review on the Energy Council meeting on 26 June 2017. This agreement will allow for the start of negotiations with the European Parliament under the Estonian presidency that started on 1 July 2017.
Major relevant points of the Council opinion:

  • The Council keeps the 27% energy efficiency target, to be reviewed in 2020 having in mind the 30% option;
  • Inspection: the Council approves the single 70 KWh threshold for the inspection of heating and air conditioning systems, but reintroduces to option of advice as alternative to inspection. BAC systems are considered as cost-effective alternative to inspections in large non-residential and multifamily buildings;
  • Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI): the EC should develop a voluntary SRI scheme without having any negative impact on existing national EPC schemes, and build on related initiatives at national level;
  • Annex 1 energy performance calculationwith reference to the overarching standard, the Council amendment states that this shall not require compliance with the standards. The description of national calculation methods shall remain voluntary in the national annexes.
