EU Policy News
European Commission launched consultation of stakeholders for a green economy by 2050
In March 2018, the EU leaders approached to the Commission to set up a proposal for a strategy for a long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Agreement within 12 months. Following that, in July 2018, the Commission brought together various stakeholders for a public consultations to update the EU's low-carbon energy roadmap for 2050 within a two days event in Brussels on 10-11 July 2018.
The purpose of the public consultation is to collect the opinions on the technological and socio-economic pathways for a long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy and gathering factual information and knowledge, including opportunities and challenges that the long-term strategy is facing with. Currently, the EU is achieving the targets for 2020 and also establishing policies to reduce greenhouse gas emmissions by at least 40% in 2030 and achieve high level of ambition in energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Commission also aims to include this strategy proposal for the next UN climate conference (COP24), taking place in Katowice, Poland in December 2018. All interested citizens and stakeholders can send their contributions by 9 October 2018. Check out for more information here.
The European Commission has opened the public feedback on a draft act on Ecodesign Regulation on servers and data storage products (GEN – 926.00)
The European Commission has presented the draft on GEN-926.00 within Ecodesign and labelling regulations and opened a four-week feedback period that lasts until 31 July. According to this, all interested stakeholders are invited to give feedbacks, which will be considered for the final version to be submitted to the Regulatory Committee, where member states will discuss and vote on the proposed text. The draft presents technical, environmental and economic aspects of servers and data storage products typically placed on the market for the use in data centres, offices and corporate environments. Manufacturers, grouped mainly in the fields of air conditioners, heat exchangers, cooling equipment and others, are important to provide solutions to control the temperature levels in data centres. Find out more on the draft process here. The final report on eco-design technical assistance study for Lot 9 enterprise servers and enterprise data storage is specified here.
DG ENER announces a second SRI study
