On Monday, September 14, 2026, ISO/TC 163 and ISO/TC 205 are hosting a workshop in Berlin on the next stage of development for Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) standards - the methods that underpin how building energy performance is calculated and compared internationally.
Held at DIN (Room Forum) from 13:30 to 16:00 CEST, the session brings together standard-setters from ISO, CEN, ASHRAE and the EPB Center to discuss four themes: the holistic set of EPB standards, the systemic approach to building performance, (sub)hourly calculation methods, and digitalization of calculation tools. Heat pump integration will run through the presentations as a shared example.
Speakers include Jaap Hogeling (CEN/TC 371 chair, EPB Center), Arnkell J. Petersen (ISO/TC 163/SC 2 chair), Richard Lord (ASHRAE, on the new ASHRAE/ANSI 205-2023 equipment data standard), Dick van Dijk (open-source EPB calculation tools), and Johann Zirngibl (REHVA Vice-President, on Europe's heating and cooling strategy).
Participation is free, and the workshop is open to virtual attendance via Webex with no registration required. It's a chance to see where EPB standardization is heading - and to weigh in before the next set of methods is locked in.
