On 15 October 2026, REHVA and eu.bac will hold "Building Automation for Better Performance: Delivering the EPBD in a Changing Climate," a practical workshop at the European Parliament hosted by MEP Mārtiņš Staķis. It follows the high-level morning session of European Energy Efficiency Day.

With the recast EPBD moving from legislation to implementation, Member States are working out how its requirements can be transposed, applied and verified in practice. The workshop focuses on Article 13 on technical building systems. That covers building automation and control systems (BACS), interoperability, system optimisation, monitoring and Indoor Environmental Quality, and how compliance can be demonstrated without unnecessary administrative burden.

The session will bring together Member State authorities, European Commission representatives and technical experts. They will identify common implementation bottlenecks, compare workable compliance and verification routes, and explore where standards, guidance and training can help. A final discussion will link these lessons to climate resilience, overheating prevention and the post-2030 energy efficiency agenda.

The exchange will be captured in a short practical implementation note summarising challenges, workable approaches and follow-up needs.

The workshop is a closed-door event with a limited number of places. For any questions, please reach out to constanca.magalhaes(at)eubac.org.
