The ASHRAE International Building Decarbonization Conference 2024, set to be held from April 17 to 19 in Madrid, Spain, was an important event for professionals involved in the built environment industry.
This conference, which marked its third edition, aimed to address the urgent need for reducing carbon emissions from buildings and infrastructure, focusing on sustainable practices and technologies. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in discussions about various technical solutions and strategies for decarbonization, ranging from heat pumps and refrigerants to smart systems and whole life cycle carbon management. Social events, including a flamenco show and a wine and tapas tasting, offered networking opportunities in a very special Spanish setting.
REHVA president dr. Cătălin Lungu and REHVA vice-president dr. Pedro Vincente Quiles (representing ATECYR, Spain) took part in the first roundtable - International Associations' Building Decarbonization Efforts. Together with Ms. Ginger Scoggins ASHRAE - president, Ms. Lakisha Woods - The American Institute Architects and Ms. Julie Godefroy - Head of Net Zero Policy, CIBSE, they talked about REHVA’s, respectively ATECYR’s activities related to building decarbonization. They also replied to questions like why building decarbonization is important for their members and how greater industry collaboration can accelerate building decarbonization planning and progress.
