REHVA Supporter Uponor's Combi Port and Aqua Port - Press Release
100 % drinking water quality, 40 % energy savings and 30 % faster installation: Uponor Combi Port and Aqua Port flat stations for decentralized hot water supply and - depending on the model - for heating and cooling
June 12, 2024
With the new completely pre-assembled Combi Port and Aqua Port flat stations, Uponor offers hygienic, energy-saving and efficient solutions for decentralized hot water supply and - depending on the model - for heating and cooling. The demand-based hot water supply reduces stagnation to a minimum, which leads to a significant reduction in the risk of legionella and thus ensures high drinking water quality. The on-demand supply leads to reduced energy consumption, as hot water does not have to be constantly supplied. The high degree of industrial prefabrication and quality of the Combi Port and Aqua Port models ensures enormous time savings in the planning and implementation phase.
Decentralized system for the highest drinking water quality
Uponor Combi Port and Aqua Port flat stations heat the water as required – basically using the instantaneous water heating principle - at a central location in the apartment, so that all water sources are supplied with hot water from there. On-demand hot water heating significantly reduces the amount of water in the system to approximately a third, as there is no need for a drinking water storage tank. There is also “no heating through” from the circulation pipe to the cold-water pipe, which means that cold water remains cold. Due to the small amount of water in the system, a complete exchange of water is ensured during normal use. These are all important prerequisites for eliminating the breeding ground for germs and legionella and are the key to the highest drinking water quality.
Hot water on demand for efficient use of resources
Energy - whether from fossil or renewable sources - is expensive and requires efficient use. With the Uponor Combi Port and Aqua Port flat stations many elements of hot water preparation that require energy are eliminated: the flat station only supplies the required amount of hot water, which greatly reduces “storage losses” and eliminates the need to heat up unused water in boilers and circulation pipes. In addition, there are no electricity costs for the circulation pump. This is easy on the investment budget and reduces operating costs in equal measure.
Decentralization principle: greater planning reliability and reduced installation effort
The ready-to-connect float stations in the Aqua Port (hot water supply) and Combi Port (flat stations) series are supplied as complete packages. This high degree of industrial prefabrication and quality reduces sources of error in planning, ordering and installation. In addition to heat sources such as heat pumps, low-temperature networks, or high-temperature networks such as district heating, Uponor Combi Ports and Aqua Ports are also compatible with various renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic or solar thermal systems, depending on the model. This allows the planner to choose from a wide range of heat sources, which further increases the energy efficiency of the system.
In addition, practical experience shows that up to a third of the installation and set-up time for the entire system can be saved. This is also because the flat stations only have three of the usual five connections. Another advantage of the ready-to-connect flat stations is that less material needs to be transported to the construction site.
Wide range of applications with calculable benefits
Uponor Combi Port and Aqua Port flat stations can be used for single-family homes, apartment buildings or entire residential complexes. As the flat stations are installed directly in the home, their use is completely independent of the number of residential units that need to be supplied with hot water and heating or cooling. The compact dimensions of Uponor's decentralized solutions make them ideal for use in both large and small residential units with limited space, such as those found in modern urban environments.
With up to 30 % faster installation times and up to 40 % energy savings with 100 % drinking water quality, Uponor's solutions for decentralized hot water supply and heating/cooling distribution are among the systems with the highest level of comfort and lowest energy consumption.
