Camfil published a White Paper covering the topic of airborne pollutants, specifically the contamination risks that are caused by gases and vapours.

"Airborne pollutants can be categorised into three distinct categories Particulate contamination risks, Microbial contamination risks and Molecular contamination risks. Regarding particulate contamination risks we often talk about PM1 and PM2.5 which is made up of many different pollutants that can harm our health. With microbial contamination risks we talk about the outbreak of viruses and bacteria. This risk type is often associated with particulate contamination as the harmful microbes will use particulates as a vehicle to move through the air. The third contamination risk is molecular contamination."
