Ciarán Cuffe (Greens/EFA - Ireland) has been appointed as the rapporteur on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) in the Industry, Research & Energy (ITRE) committee. ITRE is the responsible committee on behalf of the European Parliament for leading the discussions on the EPBD proposal that the Commission published on 15 December 2021

In 2020 Cuffe was also the rapporteur for the own-initiative report on 'Maximising the energy efficiency potential of the EU building stock', calling upon the Commission to release an ambitious Renovation Wave strategy, which was published later that year. The report included many progessive points, such as a call for better integration of IEQ in building renovations and deliver healthier buildings, as well as the need for developing an integrated digital building passport.

After the release of the new EPBD proposal, Cuffe responded that he welcomed the new revision but mentioned that the Commission lacked ambition, especially when it concerns the timeline of the minimum energy performance standards (article 9 in the EPBD proposal).
