A collaborative effort has been launched, supported by the Commission, industry partners, research organizations, social partners, and educational institutions. The aim is to establish a skills partnership for energy-intensive industries (EIIs). This partnership will identify skill needs, develop appropriate curricula and training programs, and promote recruitment and upskilling.
EIIs represent over 20% of European manufacturing and employ 7 million people. It is the 18th large-scale skills partnership under the European Skills Agenda's flagship initiative, the Pact for Skills. The goal is to ensure the workforce has the right skills for the green and digital transition. The Pact for Skills contributes to the European Year of Skills and the EU target of 60% adult participation in training by 2030. The Net-Zero Industry Act also emphasizes a skilled workforce for the cleantech sector and the transition to a net-zero economy.
