By 2030, the EU has to reach the headline target on energy efficiency of at least 32,5 %, together with the obligation to achieve energy savings of 0.8 % each year between 2021 and 2030. The Council also approved so-called governance regulation, which sets out the framework for the Governance of the Energy Union and climate action and defines how member states will cooperate with each other and with the European Commission towards reaching the settled headlines, including renewable and energy efficiency targets.
