The EU's pursuit of its 2030 energy goals confronts a critical obstacle: a scarcity of skilled workers. A recent Madrid workshop involving 140+ experts highlighted this pressing issue. The challenge lies in attracting youth to the energy sector while upskilling approximately 3-4 million construction workers to meet EU energy targets.

The workshop emphasized initiatives like the European Construction Blueprint and ongoing efforts by organizations such as the European Centre for Vocational Training and Fundacion Laboral de la Construcción.

Collaboration among policymakers at national levels and the support of EU funding programs like Erasmus+ and LIFE Clean Energy Transition are vital in bridging the skills gap. The BUILD UP Skills initiative, operational since 2011, has played a pivotal role in enhancing skills for green energy transitions.

The workshop also discussed Energy Performance Contracting, mutual recognition of qualifications, and tailored training for the heat pump sector. For further insights, visit the Concerted Action Energy Efficiency Directive website.
