The EU is facing multiple challenges that address the need for policies that ensure long-term sustainable prosperity for European citizens. Currently, beside many other, there are two ongoing transitions such as the full creation of a circular economy and the digital transformation. The discussion paper released by European Policy Center puts forward reflections for developing a digital roadmap for a circular economy and also highlights the key recommendations for the EU institutions for a period 2019-24.

Some of the key highlights for EU to:

  1. Maximising synergies between digitalisation and circular economy and prevent negative externalities (when require).
  2. Provide an adequate governance framework and economic incentives for a (digital) transition to a (digital) circular economy.
  3. Encourage collaboration across European society and economy as well as globally.
