The main energy efficiency targets that EED brings is a non-binding 32,5 % EU headline for 2030 with a new revision of this targets in 2023 and strengthened Article 7 extended until 2050 with an effective energy savings rate at 0.8 % of final energy consumption.

The last time that EED was approved by the European Parliament and Council was on 10 of July this year. The output by ENVI and ITRE Committee joint meeting was an endorsed provisional agreement reached with the Council on the common regulation on the Governance of the Energy Union. The ITRE Committee further endorsed provisional agreements reached with the Council on promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources and energy efficiency with a great majority.  As a final step the provisional agreement has to be voted on the next plenary (most probably in October) and in a case of approval, this provisional agreement will be formed as a final version for enforcement.
