As part of the European Green Deal, the EU is revising relevant standards that aim to avoid build-up of excessive pollution concentrations and align them with recommendations of the World Health Organization (the latest Air Quality Guidelines of the WHO have been published on 22 September 2021). To this end, the Commission has published an Inception Impact Assessment to assess the impact of a possible revision of the Ambient Air Quality Directives (Directive 2008/50/EC , Directive 2004/107/EC, Directive 2015/1480/EC, Commission Implementing Decision 2011/850/EU), planned for 2022.

Aiming to receive feedback from all citizens and stakeholders, an open public consultation will be running from 23 September till 16 December 2021.
